Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022
It was with deep sadness and shock that we learnt last evening of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. As recently as Tuesday she was fulfilling her duties overseeing the change of Prime Minister; the timing of her passing is all the more poignant for this. In many ways she touched our lives as this constant presence and few of us have known any other Monarch.
Only last week we read in the sedra about the duties of a Monarch. Queen Elizabeth fulfilled that role for over 70 years in a selfless and devoted way, unmatched in the history of monarchy. She kept her Coronation oath to serve us whether her reign was short or long and we should give thanks to the Almighty for her life and achievements.
At Kinloss, we will mark this solemn national event like we have done many before. There will be books of condolences at the Synagogue for people to sign and put in messages (during office hours from Monday onwards) and these will be sent to the Palace after the period of mourning has finished.
There will be special prayers for Queen Elizabeth and a changed prayer for the Royal Family. We will also look at other ways of commemorating her reign and achievements. Further details will follow.
