Shul for The Mind Standalone Events, Children and Adult Groups

11am in the Deal Hall

‘Shul for the Mind’ is a Kinloss community initiative that enables people living with dementia, together with their families, to participate in a traditional Shabbat service — held monthly on Sundays. Led by Rabbi Yossi Fachler, we gather to daven, sing, laugh, reminisce, and conclude with a Kiddush and a schmooze. Everyone is welcome.

Many individuals with moderate dementia, still living at home, are unable to access traditional tefilla (prayer) services within our Orthodox communities. Yet growing evidence highlights how central religion and faith are to the well-being of those living with dementia. Shul for the Mind offers a familiar rhythm, a chance to reconnect through religious ritual, and a safe, inclusive space that fosters comfort, spiritual connection, and emotional nourishment.

We are already witnessing the positive impact our ‘shul’ is having on the mental and emotional well-being of participants and their families. It also nurtures meaningful relationships among carers and helps build a community within a community — one grounded in faith, empathy, and belonging.
